LO2 Planning a multi-page website: Small Machines

Purpose:
The purpose of the website for 'Small Machines' is to promote and sell Giles Gover's hydraulic powered construction kits like; diggers, lifts and hoists as well as accessories like Lamp kits and Dock kits. It is also to especially promote a range of kits called 'The Royal Armories Range' which are to be sold at its museums exclusively by the Armouries at their sites in Leeds, Portsmouth and The Tower of London, the products are basically mini wooden kit versions of siege weapons and devices from warfare in history. The kits are made from FSC approved wood and the packaging it 100% recyclable.

Audience:
It is asked that the website is aimed at both genders and that it should appeal not just to the 6+ year olds who will construct them, but also the person who will pay for it who are the parents, a relative like an uncle or just as a person who is buying it as a prize for example. It will be aimed at people who are upper middle class (people who's jobs are a profession or are in high management), middle class (Lower Manegment, professional) and lower middle class (Superviser, junior management or professional). It will also be aimed at people who are likely to make repeat purchases. The location of the audience may vary depending on how they can get the product, in this case people who live in Sheffield, and also people who live around The Royal Armories museum which are Leeds, Portsmouth and London.

Legal and Ethical:
Data Protection is a legal issue and the data protection is apart of the DPA (Data Protection Act) which is a law that protects a individuals data, these are things such as their photos, name, address, credit history etc. that are placed in a computer's database, these can be easily accessed and edited, a business can easily obtain this information, if the company that has it sells it or uses it without your permission, they have violated the law. They need to indicate what the information that they're going to store is and how it will be used, they also need to declare how it will be kept safe. Finally, they need to agree that they won't use the information in any other way.

There is one legal thing I will have to make sure I have a SSL Certificate, the reason behind this is to show to the customer who is purchasing anything from my site using their personal information that I will never share anything of it, the SSL certificate is specifically a small data file which allows a secure network between a web server and a website. I would need this if I was planning on coding my own site, but instead I am using Wix.com, and they can handle all of the credit card data etc. this is shown in their privacy policies.
